As the pandemic rages on, we are tempted to give in to fear and anxiety. The Holy Spirit enables us to exercise the fruit of patience in our lives. Patience in our dealings with other people is an important virtue that is essential to Christian community. We will explore the divine roots of patience, the expression of it in the life of Christ and see how we can make this a reality in our daily lives and fellowships.

To be Christlike is to love others. This is made possible in our lives by the Holy Spirit. We will explore essential traits of the fruit of the Spirit, touch on the impediments to fruit bearing and discuss practical steps to enable us achieve the goal of Christlikeness.

We long for peace as the world struggles under the pandemic and its fall out. God is our only hope for lasting peace. As we commit our lives to Jesus, stay close to Him, become more like Him, we are assured of a peace that surpasses our understanding.

We will explore Joy, a fruit of the Spirit which dominates the letter to the Philippians. Joy is grounded in relationships, is fueled by prayer and accompanies our service to God. In the difficult times we face now, God continues to bless us with joy. It is God’s free gift to those who trust in Jesus.

The pandemic gives us an opportunity to concentrate on what is most important to us. The Bible helps us here by expounding the need for love. We will examine this cardinal virtue through Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 13.

Jesus was often found in the homes of ordinary people like Mary and Martha. Luke paints a domestic picture of hustle and bustle, sibling rivalry and discipleship. He teaches us sublime truths regarding work, worry, devotion and focus in life. Come and learn from this charming story.

In a world of competing demands it is hard to be focused on what should be paramount in our lives. King David spoke of the “one thing” he desired more than anything else. Both Jesus and Paul spoke of “one thing”. What are they trying to tell us? Come and find out!

November 4, 2018 “Common Sense Religion”
Reason and faith in God are considered to be incompatible. Reason and logic are seen to be important to our everyday lives while faith and religion are relegated to a space where thinking is unnecessary. On Sunday we will explore whether there is any place for common sense in religious faith and whether it is reasonable to believe in God and spiritual matters.

Very many books have been written about Jesus Christ. He has been portrayed as a teacher, magician, prophet, rebel, martyr, failed revolutionary etc. But who was he really? The Bible has credible eye witness accounts that give a clear picture of his life on earth. We will also peer behind the curtain of history into his divine origins. Come and meet this unique person who is both human and, yes, more that human.
